Breaking: Justin Fairfax Kills Wife, Then Himself Amid Marital Crisis: ANNANDALE, Va. (AP) — Former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, a rising star within the Democratic Party until sexual assault allegations destroyed his political career, was killed by his wife who was estranged from him and later himself just weeks before the deadline for a judge to get out of the home they shared with their children as per the court and police documents.
The home of the officers located in Annandale, a Washington, D.C., suburb of Annandale early on Thursday morning found dead bodies of Fairfax 47 and his wife Cerina Fairfax, 49. Cerina Fairfax, 49, Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said.
Justin Fairfax fatally shot his wife, who was a successful dentist in the basement prior to moving upstairs to a bedroom to commit suicide, Davis said. Their son dialed 911.
A Justin Fairfax longest-running acquaintances said to The Associated Press that he was becoming increasingly depressed following the filing of his divorce in the last year.
The judge in charge of the divorce last week wrote that the judge’s “isolation drinking, loneliness and absence from family life are signs of what could be a feeling of smugness and despair.”
Changes in fortunes
A decade prior to that, Justin Fairfax’s politics career was just beginning to take off. He was elected lieutenant governor last year and was likely to become Virginia’s first Black governor the following year when Democratic Governor.
Ralph Northam faced widespread calls to resign due to an allegedly photo of a racist of his school’s yearbook. Fairfax could have been elected governor had Northam had resigned.
However, 2 women were able to come out and accused Fairfax of assaulting them sexually some time ago.
Fairfax claimed that the interactions that took place before when he got married they were consensual and he did not respond to demands to leave. He attempted unsuccessfully to be governor by 2021 however, he was generally rebuffed by Virginia Democrats and was defeated during the Democratic primary.
A marriage and career end in divorce
The court records reveal the fact that Justin Fairfax and his wife, Cerina Fairfax, had been separated for two years, but they were living in the same house with their two teenage kids at the time of the incident.
A judge directed Fairfax to be removed at his end of April. He noted that tensions within the family were at an all-time high for a lengthy period of period of.
The documents also showed an deterioration in his emotional and mental well-being following the setbacks in his political career as well as the 2019 scandal. The man reportedly retreated and began to drink heavily.

Cerina Fairfax ran a flourishing dental practice.

The couple met while they were students in Duke University and married in 2006. Cerina Fairfax was also a student at as a student at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and was recognized by the school in 2015 for being an outstanding graduate.
A profile page on the site of her dental practice referred to her as an avid reader who loved to travel, do yoga, do trails with her Vizsla breed dogs as well as “spend moments with her amazing family.”
“It’s extremely sad for the group,” Davis said. “A majority of people who are familiar with the Fairfax family are shocked. We’re shocked.”
A remembrance of the grief
The death of the politician shocked officials from across the state.
“We keep Cerina as well as Justin Fairfax’s families particularly their two children in our thoughts as we each process this shocking and terrifying announcement,” Virginia’s Democratic U.S. senators, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine stated in an announcement jointly.
Fairfax was co-chairperson for Warner’s 2014 reelection campaign.
Governor of Virginia’s Democratic governor Abigail Spanberger, posted on X she was grieved and prayed for the families of those who have been affected by the tragedy.

“This tragic event reminds us of the fact that domestic violence could take place in any family, and in any location,” she wrote.
Nelson admitted that, regardless of how much Justin Fairfax and his other acquaintances believed that he would never abuse women, the killing of the wife of his would serve as the epitaph and undermine the good and honest things he’d done in public.
