Conspiracy Against Women’s Reservation

“The ladies of Bengal were in favor of 33% reservation. And we worked hard to achieve it. We even advocated to have it implemented by 2029. However, the Trinamool did not want any more daughters from Bengal to become MPs or MLAs,” PM Modi declared.

He also claimed that the ruling party was seeking to preserve the “Maha Jungle Raj” in a bid to show that a greater participation of women in politics could challenge their power.

Bill Fails to Pass in Parliament

The Women’s Reservation Bill failed to pass through the parliament because the government was short of the required two-thirds vote. Although the NDA got the support of 298 lawmakers in the Lok Sabha, 230 MPs opposed the bill and led to its demise.

the heated exchange over the Women’s Reservation Bill underscores the deep political divide between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress ahead of crucial elections. While Narendra Modi has framed the bill’s failure as a missed opportunity for empowering women.

the Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, maintains that its track record already reflects strong female representation. As the debate continues, the larger question remains whether political consensus can be achieved in the future to ensure greater participation of women in India’s legislative framework.
