Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices Hiked From October 1, Domestic Rates Unchanged

Commercial cooking LPG has become more expensive from October 1, 2026, as oil marketing companies raised the prices of 19-kg LPG cylinders across several major Indian cities. The increase comes at the beginning of the festive season, when demand from restaurants, hotels, caterers and other food-related businesses typically rises.

For household consumers, however, there is some relief. The price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder has been kept unchanged in the latest monthly revision. The October 1 decision therefore affects commercial users more directly than ordinary households.

Delhi commercial LPG cylinder now costs ₹2,810LPG

In the national capital, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has increased by ₹62.50, from ₹2,747.50 in September to ₹2,810 from October 1.

The increase varies from city to city. In Mumbai, the price has risen by ₹63 to ₹2,764, while Chennai has seen an increase of ₹66.50, taking the price to ₹2,983. In Patna, the increase is ₹71.50, with the new price reaching ₹3,100.50.

Kolkata has also witnessed a substantial increase, with the 19-kg commercial cylinder now priced at around ₹2,954 after a ₹70 hike. Other cities have recorded different revisions depending on local pricing structures.

Key October 1 rates

City 19-kg commercial LPG price
Delhi ₹2,810
Mumbai ₹2,764
Kolkata ₹2,954
Chennai ₹2,983
Patna ₹3,100.50

The figures reflect the latest reported prices effective October 1 and can vary because LPG retail prices are revised separately for different markets.

Domestic prices remain unchanged

While commercial users will have to pay more, households using the standard 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder have not received a similar increase.

The domestic cylinder continues to cost ₹942 in Delhi, ₹941.50 in Mumbai and ₹957.50 in Chennai, according to reported October rates.

The decision provides some relief to household budgets, particularly at a time when the festive season is beginning. Domestic LPG prices have remained unchanged for several months, despite fluctuations in commercial-cylinder rates.

It is important to distinguish between the two categories. Commercial cylinders are primarily used by establishments such as restaurants, hotels, bakeries, caterers and other businesses, while the 14.2-kg cylinder is the standard household cooking-gas cylinder.

Why have commercial LPG prices increased?

LPG prices in India are revised periodically by state-owned oil marketing companies. International energy prices, import costs, currency movements and global supply conditions can influence the domestic pricing environment.

The latest increase comes amid continuing volatility in international energy markets. Reports have linked recent pressure on fuel prices to geopolitical developments and disruptions affecting oil and gas transportation. Brent crude has also remained elevated, adding to concerns about India’s energy import bill.

However, LPG prices do not move in a simple one-to-one relationship with crude oil prices. Domestic pricing decisions also depend on international LPG benchmarks, taxes, logistics and other factors.

Second consecutive monthly increase in Commercial gas

The October hike follows a smaller increase implemented in September. At that time, the price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder in Delhi was raised by ₹9.50 to ₹2,747.50. Mumbai’s rate stood at ₹2,701, while Chennai’s was ₹2,916.50.

The latest increase is therefore considerably larger than the September revision.

However, commercial LPG prices have also seen significant cuts earlier this year. In August, for example, prices in Delhi and Kolkata were reduced by more than ₹200 per cylinder. This illustrates how sharply commercial LPG rates can fluctuate depending on market conditions.

Price hike Impact on restaurants and food businesses

The immediate impact of the October increase will be felt by businesses that use multiple commercial LPG cylinders every month.

Restaurants, hotels, roadside food outlets, caterers and institutional kitchens rely heavily on LPG for cooking. Even a moderate increase per cylinder can add significantly to monthly operating costs for establishments with high consumption.

Businesses now entering the festive period may face additional pressure because demand for food, catering and hospitality services generally increases during major festivals. Higher cooking-fuel costs could become one component of overall operating expenses, alongside food ingredients, transportation, electricity and labour.

Whether businesses pass the additional cost on to customers will depend on individual establishments and their overall cost structures.

What does hike  mean for ordinary consumers?

For households, the most important takeaway is that there is no October 1 increase in the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder price.

Consumers using domestic LPG therefore do not face an immediate additional burden from this particular revision. However, households may indirectly feel the impact if businesses that use commercial LPG adjust prices for prepared food, catering or restaurant services.

The October revision also highlights the difference between commercial and domestic LPG pricing. Although both products are used for cooking, they are subject to different pricing structures and serve different consumer categories.

What to watch next

LPG prices are generally reviewed at the beginning of each month, meaning consumers and businesses will be watching the next revision for November. International crude and LPG prices, currency movements and geopolitical developments will remain important factors.

For now, the October 1 decision is clear: commercial LPG has become costlier, with increases of roughly ₹62 to ₹72 across several major cities, while domestic LPG prices remain unchanged. The immediate financial impact will therefore fall primarily on commercial establishments rather than household LPG users.
