Kapil Dev Warns Against Overhyping Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Says ‘Too Much Pressure Can Affect Him’

Former India captain Kapil Dev has advised cricket fans, selectors, and the media not to place excessive expectations on teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi. While praising the youngster’s extraordinary talent, Kapil stressed that too much hype at an early stage could create unnecessary pressure and affect his development as a cricketer.

The 1983 World Cup-winning captain said Vaibhav possesses exceptional ability, but he should be allowed to grow naturally without being burdened by constant comparisons and expectations.

Compares Vaibhav’s Talent to Sachin and ViratKapil dev

Kapil Dev made a strong statement by saying that, in terms of raw talent, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is on par with legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

However, he clarified that talent alone does not make a player great. According to Kapil, sustained performances over many years are what separate legends from promising youngsters. He said Vaibhav has the potential, but only time will determine how far he goes in international cricket.

‘Don’t Overhype Him’

Kapil Dev’s biggest message was that people should avoid creating excessive excitement around the 15-year-old batter.

He said that constantly projecting Vaibhav as the next big superstar could put him under immense mental pressure at a very young age. Instead, he urged everyone to give the youngster enough time to develop his game and enjoy cricket without unrealistic expectations.

Supports Early India Debut if Ready

Speaking about Vaibhav’s international future, Kapil said age should not be the deciding factor.

He believes that if the youngster is technically and mentally ready to represent India, there should be no unnecessary delay in giving him an opportunity at the highest level. At the same time, he emphasized that selection should be accompanied by patience and proper guidance.

T20 Success Is Only the Beginning

Kapil acknowledged Vaibhav’s impressive performances in T20 cricket and praised the impact he has made at such a young age.

However, he pointed out that the biggest challenge for any cricketer is maintaining consistency across formats, especially in Test cricket. According to Kapil, the real measure of greatness comes from performing successfully over a long period rather than shining in a few matches.

Sachin Didn’t Receive This Much Hype, Says Kapil

Kapil Dev also observed that even Sachin Tendulkar did not receive the level of attention and hype that surrounds Vaibhav today.

He noted that the modern media environment and social media have significantly increased public expectations from young players. Therefore, he believes it is important to protect emerging talents from unnecessary pressure and allow them to mature gradually.

Fans Excited About Vaibhav’s Future

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become one of India’s most talked-about young cricketers after his impressive performances in domestic and franchise cricket.

His fearless batting and remarkable consistency have generated excitement among fans, many of whom are eagerly waiting to see him represent India at the international level.

The youngster is widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Indian cricket.

A Balanced Message From a Cricket Legend

Kapil Dev’s remarks combine praise with caution. While he believes Vaibhav Suryavanshi possesses extraordinary talent comparable to some of India’s greatest cricketers, he insists that the youngster should not be burdened by excessive expectations.

His message is simple: give Vaibhav the time, support, and freedom to develop naturally. If handled carefully, the young batter has every opportunity to build a long and successful career for Indian cricket.
