Air Force Day 2026: President, PM Modi Lead Nation in Extending Greetings to Indian Air Force Personnel

India is observing the 94th Air Force Day on October 8, 2026, with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the nation in extending greetings to Indian Air Force personnel, veterans and their families. The day honours the service, courage and professionalism of the country’s air warriors and commemorates the establishment of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on October 8, 1932.

President Murmu Praises IAF’s Courage and PreparednessAir Force

President Droupadi Murmu extended greetings to all air warriors, veterans and their families on Air Force Day. In her message, she highlighted the IAF’s service to the nation and its emphasis on professionalism, discipline and operational preparedness.

The President also referred to Operation Sindoor, saying the operation demonstrated the courage, precision and operational preparedness of Indian air warriors in safeguarding the country’s security. She also acknowledged the IAF’s role in providing assistance during disasters and humanitarian crises.

President Murmu expressed hope that the Indian Air Force would continue to uphold its longstanding legacy of service and excellence.

Her message comes as the IAF marks another milestone in its history, with the force having evolved considerably from its origins in the early years of independent military aviation.

PM Modi Salutes Air Warriors

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his greetings to the country’s air warriors on Air Force Day.

“India is proud of our Air Warriors,” Modi said in a post on X, adding that the nation salutes their courage and commitment to protecting the country’s skies.

The Prime Minister’s message underlined the importance of the personnel who operate and maintain the country’s air defence capabilities. Air Force Day provides an opportunity to recognise not only pilots but also engineers, technicians, ground crews, support personnel and families associated with the service.

IAF Marks 94 Years of Service

The Indian Air Force was established on October 8, 1932. Since then, it has developed into a major component of India’s defence structure, participating in military operations as well as humanitarian assistance and disaster-relief missions.

The force has undergone extensive modernisation over the decades, introducing new aircraft, weapons, surveillance systems and other technologies. Its operational responsibilities now extend across air defence, air superiority, strategic airlift, transport, reconnaissance, search and rescue and humanitarian assistance.

Air Force Day is therefore not limited to ceremonial celebrations. It also provides an occasion to reflect on the evolution of India’s air power and the role of its personnel in maintaining operational readiness.

Operation Sindoor Highlighted in Air Force Day Messages

This year’s messages have placed particular emphasis on Operation Sindoor. President Murmu specifically cited the operation as an example of the courage, precision and preparedness demonstrated by IAF personnel.

The reference comes as the armed forces continue to highlight operational preparedness and the growing importance of precision, technology and coordination in modern military operations.

The Ministry of Defence also issued an Air Force Day message, describing the IAF’s commitment to national security and highlighting the service’s operational capabilities and dedication.

Air Force Day Celebrations at Hindon

The 94th Air Force Day celebrations are being held at Hindon Air Force Station in Uttar Pradesh. The event features ceremonial activities and displays showcasing the capabilities and traditions of the Indian Air Force.

The celebrations provide an opportunity for the service to present its aircraft, personnel and operational heritage while paying tribute to veterans and those who have made sacrifices in the line of duty.

The return of the main Air Force Day event to Hindon is also significant for the IAF’s public engagement with citizens and its presentation of military aviation capabilities.

A Tribute to Veterans and Families

The Air Force Day messages from the President and Prime Minister also recognised veterans and families of serving and former personnel.

Behind every operational deployment are thousands of personnel working in technical, logistical, administrative and support roles. Families also remain an important part of the wider military community, supporting personnel through postings, deployments and demanding operational schedules.

The observance serves as a reminder of these collective contributions.

Looking Ahead

As the Indian Air Force marks its 94th anniversary, the focus remains on maintaining operational preparedness while adapting to changes in modern warfare and aerospace technology.

From its establishment in 1932 to its current role as a technology-driven military service, the IAF has undergone a significant transformation. The messages from President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi on Air Force Day underline the continued national recognition of the service and its personnel.

The 2026 observance, therefore, combines remembrance of the IAF’s history with recognition of its present responsibilities and the challenges ahead. For India’s air warriors, veterans and their families, Air Force Day remains an occasion to honour service, duty and commitment to the nation.
