Who is Mukul Choudhary? Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant was “short in words” when Mukul Choudhary orchestrated a heist to grant his team an unlikely victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match at Eden Gardens on Thursday. At 15 overs, it appeared over, and the hosts appeared as if they would be the winners of the celebration. However, the 21-year-old did not have the same plans and made a stunning comeback with a half-century that was a huge success to get Lucknow through the finish line with just three wickets to spare.

Who is Mukul Choudhary? With a win of 54 runs remaining in the match for Lucknow Super Giants, 21-year-old batter Mukul Choudhary has joined West Indies great Kieron Pollard as the sole player to score 50 or more runs in the final overs of a thriving Indian Premier League chase.
With 54 required from the last four balls, he hit seven sixes before sprinting off the last ball to finish his chase for 182.
Choudhary was only playing in his third IPL match but made his debut on the biggest stage of the country’s T20 cricket.
The right-hander was born in Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan. He has played in seven T20 matches of the top tier; however, he was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for 2.60 million (PS210,000) in the last auction, following offers from Lucknow, Mumbai Indians, and the Rajasthan Royals.
In a clip posted to social media earlier in the year, Lucknow’s head coach Justin Langer, the former Australia coach and batter, claimed he would transform Choudhary into the “scariest bat in India” within four months.
Who is Mukul Choudhary? After his outstanding performances at the Under-23 level, he scored 173 runs, with a strike rate of 198.85, during five matches of last year’s Syed Muhtaq Ali Trophy—the domestic T20 tournament in India under the IPL—just before auction time.
“I do not have any words to describe my experience,” said his commander, Rishabh Pant. “What an incredible effort.
“When you trust the player as captain and an athlete, it can be awe-inspiring.”
“He’s Hungry”: The Rise of Mukul Choudhary, LSG’s New IPL 2026 Hero

Langer added that Mukul isn’t a novice at winning games. He is constantly contemplating it and is eager to do his best for the team, even when under pressure.
Mukul Choudhary “He’s played a fair amount of cricket. However, there are only a few players with the same level of talent as Tim David or Andre Russell. I’m not going to make comparisons, but these types of players have careers around winning games. This is how he grew up playing. He’s used to finishing games. He thinks about it even though he’s just 22, which is a long time ago. He’s only 22; however, he’s got the look of maturity in his eyes,” Langer said.
“He’s hungry. The family and parents of his will be satisfied with his accomplishments today. When you are first introduced to the workforce, you work to be the best, and this will be the most significant moment of your career and life,” Langer added.
In the match between KKR and LSG, the latter scored 181/4 in just 20 overs after being allowed to bat. The hosts appeared to be ready to win, since more than 50 runs were required in the last four overs of LSG, and the team was without experienced batters. But Mukul raised his hand and took the team to the line on the last ball of the match with three wickets left.
“When the 64-run score was required in the final 4 overs, I was thinking this was what happens when you are a coach. When you’re on the field or speaking, you’re in a comfortable position. I was contemplating what I would say to players following the game. I think we bowled superbly on this wicket. We performed admirably. I did not even notice that regardless of whether we lost or won,” said Langer.
“Our bowling was outstanding and our fielding excellent, so I was very satisfied with the result. However, we also discussed the responsibility that comes with it. A 22-year-old boy has taken on responsibility, and what a wonderful effort it was,” he added.
