Lionel Messi has officially announced his retirement from international football, bringing an extraordinary 21 year career with the Argentina national team to an end.
The 39 year old Argentina captain confirmed his decision on August 31 through an emotional message shared on social media. Messi said the decision was painful but that he believes the time has come to close the chapter with the national team.
